I have been at CCP for over 20 years, most of it in Zambia and Tanzania. I have worked on a diverse and fascinating range of projects, but there is a consistent theme throughout my work: helping to create a new generation of African health communication professionals. After spending the last year in West Africa working on the Ebola outbreak, I have returned to Tanzania, where I am the Senior Technical Advisor for Capacity Building on the Tanzania Capacity and Communication Project (TCCP). On TCCP I have spearheaded the design and implementation of an innovative mentoring program- ACE (Advancing Communication Experientially). I also helped Muhimbili University to create a Master’s degree in health communication and designed and implemented a radio distance learning program to build capacity of community volunteers. Finally, through TCCP, we are demonstrating that SBCC capacity can be built "at scale" where we have rolled out a Tanzanian adaptation of the Leadership in Strategic Health Communication course to regional and district health managers across the country.
